Below is a list of frequently asked questions, - well ones that we have been asked a lot about Montenegro in terms of currency, food, temperatures, rules, laws etc

What is the Language spoken in Montenegro

In 2011 36.97% of the population declared Montenegrin their native language.


Other non-official languages spoken in Montenegro include Serbian, Albanian, Bosnian and Croatian.
The Montenegrin language is written in Latin and Cyrillic alphabets, but there it is a growing political movement that wants to use officially only the Latin alphabet when Montenegro enters the European Union.

 

You will find that a lot of people speak some English or German, especially the younger ones.​

What is the currency used in Montenegro



The Euro.

Whats the Climate like?


The summers are hot and long.Typically in the high 20s to low 30s during June, July and August. May and September traditionally enjoy more moderate temperatures.

​How about getting around?

Car hire is available at Dubrovnik airport. There are car hire companies in Hercig Novi too. Make sure you check if there is a charge for crossing the border to Montenegro.

Important - YOU MUST ALWAYS DRIVE WITH THE HEADLIGHTS ON - EVEN IN THE DAYTIME. (this is enforced by the police).

The local public transport is by bus. There are stops very close to the apartment for buses going in the direction of Hercig Novi and Kotor.

Boat trips to Kotor and other areas are freely available

Is the tap water drinkable?

​

No. But bottled water is cheap and freely available.

What are the people like?

​

In the main we have found Montenegren people to be friendly, outgoing and always willing to help even if your Serbian is basic, (as ours is!)
